How Can I Become a Magazine Writer by Arthur L Burton III
Magazine writers are not only paid but they are making a substantial living from it. Writers from all genres have realized that this is a quick way to get paid and have a good time at the same time. So many obstacles stand in your way when you are writing novels and not everyone has the luck to be discovered with no effort at all. In order to write for magazines you have to first research the editor and then the magazine and tailor your pitch letter in order to spark an interest in the editor. The real deal is that even if the editor is interested in your pitch letter they will not take a chance on you unless you can prove that you can write well and meet their deadlines, and then you need to send them samples of your writing which are called clips. How can you have any clips if you have not gotten a chance to write for any magazines? The answer I am going to give you in a few moments.
When you have a website and you need to publlish it you go to a hosting company and wallah, your weebsite is live on the web. The problem remains now is that there are several hundred thousand websites and maybe more just like yours on the Internet. You attempt to market yourself by telling your friends to give you a shoutout in the forums informing their group that your website is live, but really they are not going to leave the forum until they are ready to log off or go to another forum. How do you spread the word? You write articles on the web. Writing articles does a few things for you like, you get a chance to write about whatever you are interested in and people come to these sites just to read the information that you are posting. It also gives you the clips that you need to send to the editor of magazines showing that you have clips that are published.
Now this is no easy road maybe you send out thousands of pitch letters and no one responds and that can be an indication that you have not read enough copies of their magazines. Every magazine has a certain writing style and certain articles that they are looking to publish. Now the real secret is to find out what they are looking for. Most of the times it is better for you to send a quick note to the editor or their assistant and ask what stories they are looking for. Sometimes you will get no answer but then sometimes you will get a message back and they will give you information on what they are looking to publish in their magazines.
Editors are really busy individuals so you may think that it is better for you to research their magazine first and then take a guess and send a pitch letter. I have found that you have one shot to make an impression on an editor when you pitch a story so go all out and make sure that your pitch letter gives every detail about yourself, your experience, and send clips that are meainingful to the Editor. It makes no sense to pitch to a magazine that is for Network Engineers and you are sending Clips that are talking about Outerspace. You need to show and prove on paper and Editor’s look for typo’s and to see how well you can hold their attention.
The key to this market is have something interesting to write about and make sure your writing style goes with what the readers of the magazine is interested in. Most people believe that they have to buy a copy of the Writers Market and read through massive amounts of information or go to the newstands and read the mastoids of every magazine they sell. The truth is that the Internet is your best friend and you need to utilize it to the best of your ability.

It lists plenty of magazines and you can click the link and read the writer guidelines and this gives you enough information to pitch your story to th Editor. Hey not everyone has money to spend on buying the Writers Market so you have to learn how to put free in your web searches on google.
Bottom line is you want to write, then you are going to have to get your experience by posting as many articles on the web that you can. Why? because once it is written and posted on the web you have taken the first step towards having clips to send to the Editor’s of Magazines and maybe, just maybe, you will find yourself published in a magazine that will pay you.
